Our Golf Cart Part Mart has a large selection of parts and accessories to repair and upgrade golf carts, and I usually write about the ones that are interesting and sell well, but today I found an example of almost complete demographics/marketing failure: LED ground light effects kits for golf carts. Under-vehicle lights are typically found on cars owned by young people who are trying to stand out while cruising hip neighborhoods and I was surprised to see Light Rodz kits for golf carts offered in the golf cart accessories section of eBay Motors. Could golf cart owners really want to pimp their rides? The demographics seem to clash.
Looking on Terapeak for recent sales, I found the answer: only one such kit has sold in the past 90 days. It seems that few golf cart owners want that special purple or green glow emanating from underneath their carts. They buy lots of golf cart cab enclosures, which is the opposite of buying a convertible, but almost none buy golf cart bodies with ostentatious custom graphics or ground lighting kits. I guess golf carts are post-midlife-crisis rides!
