Beer Stuff Here is a vast site dedicated to selling anything and everything related to the brewing, drinking, or advertising of beer. That’s a broad target, so when the site came up on my update list, I wondered what it actually sells? I got a list of sales from the past few months and started poring over it. I kept noticing fishing-related items sold.
Fishing? I did not remember that there was a Fishing Beer Stuff section, but there is. I did a bit of research to find out what kinds of beer-related things fishermen buy. They buy Vintage Beer Fishing Lures of all kinds. Beer can bobbers, bottle cap spinning lures, beer bottle lures, and one of the biggest favorites: the Heddon Big Bud lure.
The old adage is that if you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, he’ll sit on a boat in the hot sun all day drinking beer like an idiot.
Apparently, some fishing minds do not wander too far from the subject of beer consumption while they are fishing, hence the invention of the Heddon “Big Bud” fishing lure. Fishermen are always trying to figure out a bait that might be attractive to a fish. One apparently looked at the beer in his hand and did not see anything for a fish not to love about it. Just needs a head, hooks, and a tail! The perfect lure!
I would be tempted to say that this is a gag gift for frustrated fishermen, but that box looks very much like it has ridden around in a damp tackle box and the hooks show some rust. Someone actually tried to catch fish with this thing. I wonder if it works?
It’s no more ridiculous looking than some of the other things I have seen in fishing lure selections.
