One of our affiliate websites is Multi-ToolShop.net, an attempt to organize the many eBay listings of multi-tools. I was researching recent sales of multi-tools on Terapeak and found that a lot of people were buying Victorinox Swiss Army Knives from the Multi-Tool category tree leaf we have been using to populate our site: eBay > Sporting Goods > Outdoor Sports > Hunting > Knives > Multi-Tools #66824. These days, I think of a Multi-Tool as a pocket knife featuring pliers, but when I was a kid my Swiss Army Knife was indeed my multi-tool. It qualifies for the site!
It occurred to me that, being knives, these might be sold in some places other than the Multi-Tools category leaf, possibly the nearby Folding Blade #42577 leaf, maybe more. I took it from the top and searched on Terapeak for the word Victorinox on all of eBay. They seem to sell a lot of watches and clothing and other things, but most of the listings were in Collectibles, not Sporting Goods. eBay > Collectibles > Knives, Swords & Blades > Folding Knives > Modern (1070 – Now) > Factory Manufactured #48818 had about 12,000 listings containing Victorinox in the past two months. The sell-through rate was almost 50%. Meanwhile, eBay > Sporting Goods > Outdoor Sports > Camping & Hiking > Knives & Tools > Pocket, Multi Tools #75236 had almost 1,600 while our chosen category leaf, Multi-Tools #66824, had only about 330 listings.
Our new Victorinox Swiss Army Knife page on Multi-ToolShop.net displays all Victorinox Swiss Army Knife listings from those three most popular categories. Today, that means over 5,600 listings. Researching to create some new pages to organize those listings by popular models, I came across the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife SwissChamp XAVT with 80 features. I decided to try to think up 80 features that might possibly be on a folding knife, but could not do it. I had to go and look at one of the auctions for a full function list. It has a barometer. That’s cheating!
Victorinox has not been left behind by the Multi-Tool market’s emphasis on pliers as part of a good pocket tool. They offer the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit model that folds in the same way as classic Leatherman Multi-Tools.
